I have default judgment in NYC for credit card debt. How do I deal with this?

Colin K asked:

I was never served for the complaint. As a result judgment was served. I never found out until my paycheck was garnished. Can I contest this? If so, is it a waste of time (I’ll have to pay eventually unless i prove identity theft)? Can I get it vacated, then try to negotiate a settlement? How about declaring ch 13 bankruptcy?

is there anyone who has experience to settle his or her debts from credit card and mortgage?
